Vibrational Sound Therapy Sessions

For most clients, the benefits from a VST session are strengthened by repeated application. As the body becomes familiar with the way that the bowls feel, the mind quickly recognizes that the sound of the bowls means it is time for the body to begin relaxing and rebalancing. The more frequently one experiences VST sessions, the quicker and deeper the body and mind are able to drop down into the lower brain states of relaxation. For this reason, I have created packages to help encourage that experience. What is Vibrational Sound Therapy?

Vibrational sound therapy (VST) is a relaxation modality that can balance and retune your body, mind, and spirit, encouraging relaxation, healing, and wellness. When our bodies are provided the right environment of balance and homeostasis, they have an incredible ability to heal itself. Vibrational Sound Therapy is a wonderful tool to help our bodies get out of the stressed state (fight or flight) and into the more balanced, relaxed state where healing and re-alignment can happen. 

How Vibrational Sound Therapy Can Help You

This one-on-one service uses hand-hammered therapeutic singing bowls intentionally and strategically placed on the body to create a combination of harmonic tones and soothing vibrations that penetrate deep into the muscle tissues acting as a massage for the nervous system and producing a state of tranquility and deep meditation for the mind, body, and soul. During a VST session, the body will go through noticeable changes as it responds to deeper and deeper states of rest and relaxation. These deep states of relaxation result in similar brain states achieved with yoga, tai chi, and meditation. As the body relaxes, the breathing and heart rate slows and the muscles begin to lose tension allowing the tissues to absorb the waves of vibration. This relaxed state called “Rest and Digest” allows the body to balance and repair itself instead of having to respond to outside concerns and stress. The immune system is at it’s best when our bodies and minds are relaxed.

How often should I do Vibrational Sound Therapy?

Before Your Session:

You do not need any special preparation for your VST session other than trying to make sure you are fully hydrated. Before your VST session starts, we will discuss your specific needs, health concerns and your expectations for the session. We will use this information to customize a session that is right for you. VST It is a very gentle and relaxing process. 


VST is an on the body sound work. At the beginning of your first session, I will go over the location of where the bowls will be placed on the body so you know what to expect. You will generally lie either face-up or face down on a massage table for the duration of the session. In a VST session, you will remain fully clothed. Most sessions last between 30 - 90 minutes. You should feel calm and relaxed during and after the session.

During Your Session:

During a session, you will go through noticeable changes as you shift through varying states of rest. Relaxation is not only a physical state but also a state of consciousness. Relaxation brought about during an on-body VST session brings on similar brain states as yoga, tai chi, and deep meditation. These beneficial effects are brought on to you passively as you relax and let the bowls do their work.


Most people will start to relax as soon as the session begins. Your muscles will begin to lose tension and relax as you may start to slip into the alpha brain wave pattern within the first few minutes of the session. At this point, your breathing and heart rate should start to slow down and your body will begin to release tension held in your muscle tissues. As your heart rate slows, your blood pressure falls and arteries expand giving a sensation of warmth throughout the body. Your stress hormone, cortisol, will also begin to fall and your body will begin to shift out of the sympathetic state (fight or flight) and into the parasympathetic state. This relaxed state allows the body to naturally balance and repair itself instead of responding to outside concerns. The body is amazing at healing itself when given the right environment. The immune system is at its very best when in this relaxed state. 

Because VST is so gentle and relaxing, many people will fall asleep at some point during their session.

After Your Session:

Each person will respond differently to a VST session. However, some of the things you might experience after your session is a deep sense of calm, less stress and anxiety than before your session as well as an increased threshold for emotional responses that help you deal with outside stressors in a more positive way. Your muscles may feel more relaxed, possibly resulting in less pain. Your mind may be quieter and your thoughts a bit slower. You may feel a mental freshness that you carry with you throughout the rest of your day. It is also not uncommon to feel a sense of lightness or a little “floaty” right after your session. 

Having repeat VST sessions gives added benefits to deep relaxation. With each additional session, the body recognizes the sound and vibration and returns to its desired relaxed state quicker each time allowing for increasingly deeper relaxation as new patterns are established. As your body becomes more familiar with this style of therapy, the relaxed state can become more pronounced and induced more quickly increasing the effectiveness of your sessions.
